CoE-CRT is staffed and equipped to respond rapidly to most situations involving concrete testing and evaluation.

Sampling and Testing

  • CoE-CRT laboratory specializes in concrete mix designs, concrete testing, FM 5-515 LBR soil testing, aggregate testing, drilling and Nondestructive testing. We are FDOT and ALDOT approved for concrete mix designs, soil, concrete and aggregate acceptance and qualification testing.

    CoE-CRT Laboratory introduces federal, state and local personnel to the state-of-the-art concrete technology in materials selection and mixture design, as well as field and laboratory testing. In an effort to bridge the gap between research and the field, the CoE-CRT lab. accomplishes this technology transfer in one of several ways:

    • By conducting on-site field testing at construction projects to supplement state highway agency testing,
    • By training personnel to get "hands-on" experience with new technologies and test equipment,
    • By showcasing equipment and technology at industry conferences, symposiums, and facilities to familiarize transportation personnel with state-of-the-art technology,
    • By providing an equipment loan program where CoE-CRT personnel can borrow equipment for various lengths of time after having been trained in its use by Civil Engg. staff.

    The current focus of the CoE-CRT includes high performance concrete (HPC) for pavements and bridges, nondestructive testing, and performance related specifications (PRS). An active partnership with manufacturers, contractors, industry associations and academia is encouraged and maintained in all of the CoE-CRT activities.

    Technology
    Field demonstrations are performed using a fully equipped mobile concrete testing laboratory which can perform a wide range of concrete tests, including conventional destructive tests as well as new and innovative nondestructive tests. These capabilities include:
